About
ToolBank's Tools for Change tackles nonprofit resource scarcity head-on with an ingenious solution: affordable tool lending. Instead of purchasing, community organizations access our vast inventory of over 10,000 tools (nearly 300 types) for extended periods. Our 6% weekly handling fee (e.g., $9 for a $150 power washer, $0.60 for a $10 hammer) ensures program accessibility and sustainability, covering staffing, maintenance, and new acquisitions. This modest fee fosters borrower accountability.
The impact is profound. Member organizations save significant money and time, dramatically increasing their service capacity. Beyond direct cost savings, ToolBank and our members generate substantial economic impact, empowering more volunteers to complete thousands of annual projects. Since 2015, we've loaned over $7.9M in tools, translating to $12MM in savings for resource-limited organizations. We've equipped over 140,000 volunteers, contributing an estimated $4MM in time value to Central Virginia communities. Tools for Change isn't just about tools; it's about empowering change and building stronger communities through shared resources. -
