The COVID-19 Impact on Mental Health - Implications and Strategies for Employers
Andreas Bienert, PhD, Clinical Director, Virginia Center for Addiction Medicine and Sue Davies, Chief Human Resource Director at Markel
The worldwide pandemic represents a unique threat for businesses, but we must recognize the pandemic that will likely follow it -the mental and behavioral impact to employees. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is likely that there will be substantial increase in anxiety, depression, substance use, loneliness, and domestic violence. This webinar will explore the likely behavioral impact of the pandemic on employees as well as strategies that employers can implement to provide mental health support.
Options that will be explored during the webinar include training non-traditional groups to provide much needed psychological first aid, by helping teach the lay public to check in with one another and provide support when needed. Small signs that someone cares can make a difference during social isolation brought on by the Coronavirus Crisis. Other support options such as telemedicine therapy visits, group therapy visits, and delivery of care via technology platforms are important solutions for both acute crisis management and more routine communication and support.
