Event Description:
Shared Values Conversation
“Champions for Change” with Rick Wade, U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Tuesday, March 30, 2 - 3 p.m.
Last fall, ChamberRVA convened the Shared Values Summit, where we connected with leaders from across the region – and across sectors – for discussions centered on the work we aspire to do together to strengthen our economy and community. This year, we plan to continue these conversations to show our steadfast commitment to moving our region forward in a more intentional and equitable way.
Our first event is on March 30th at 2 p.m. with Rick Wade, Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Outreach from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. We will learn more about their Equality of Opportunity Initiative, through which the U.S. Chamber has partnered with more than 500 chambers and associations across the country (including ChamberRVA) to pursue policy and private sector solutions to bridge underlying racial divides that contribute to broader, systemic inequalities in our society.
The U.S. Chamber has since produced a white paper to show the magnitude of opportunity gaps in six key areas: Employment, Education, Entrepreneurship, Criminal Justice, Health, and Wealth Disparity. And, a set of policy recommendations to address gaps negatively affecting Black Americans.
Rick will start with brief remarks and then Jennifer Hunter, SVP of Corporate Citizenship at Altria and the co-chair of ChamberRVA’s DEI task force, will lead a “fireside chat” style conversation with him. At the end, we’ll field questions from the audience.
